I *LOVE* U

Because my mom is DA BOMB She went out to Lord and Taylor and picked up this little bottle of happiness at my request. I love all things khaki, and Chanel just put the icing on the cake with their little line of khaki nail polish. Sometimes it's the little (superficial) things...I gave my new little green friend a tour of all the surfaces in my house to see where she looked most beautiful. I might even make a little bed for her next to mine. Heehee.

Color pop & Paramore

Emma's Paramore shirt is one of her go-to items. The main new thing is her hair. We added blond streaks in the front, only about halfway down. In the back, I just bleached the bottom fringe. I think it looks so old-school rock-n-roll.

I love this outfit. It's my new fave. Emma picked it out for me when we were at the store, but then when i put it on she was like, Meh, it's not so nice after all. I disagree. I love it. It was retro day at school and I think it kind of blended with the theme. The necklaces are hand-me-downs from my mom from, I think, the 60s or 70s. The shawl is one of the many I have bought on the street in NYC.

The Bee's Knees

Okay, I love this outfit of Emma's it's totally FALL! (the over-the-knee socks used to be mine, but I look silly in them. Emma looks great). Right now I hear it's 106 in California, which is not okay. I wish I could send some of our fall weather out that way. I love Cali, but I also love a real change in seasons. I think (and many of you know this) that Taos is my favorite place on earth. Perfect desert climate and seasonal changes. We'll get back there one day...I'm planning on starting to spend longer chunks of my summers there. I love everything about Taos, especially my dad's place, tucked perfectly on a dead-end road near the ski valley.
I realize it's kinda weird to associate fall with New Mexico, especially since I'm here in Western NY where the fall is gorgeous, but NM smells so clean, like fall, so I just connect the two.
PS--guest appearance in top photo: Brandon, who is always impeccably dressed. Check him out in an earlier post.

NOT COOL, GAGA!

This is the outfit that wont go away. I love Gaga, but I cannot deal with this. And now they say they are making it into jerky. Gag me with a Slim Jim, people. Gag me.

To. Die. For.

Thievery

No pics today because lately emma and i have been wearing kind of boring, repeat outfits. So i'm gonna tell you a story about my grandmother, the thief.
Grandma lived at a really nice nursing home in Co-op City in the Bronx after we moved her from Miami. My mom and i went to visit her once a month or so. We would do the same things: eat at the diner in Co-op City then take her to the store. It was like a small Walmart--they sold some clothing and lots of medicine. Catered to the old folks.
So, first to the diner where my grandmother would order a Western Omelet and then ask several times if we thought it was fattening. No grandma, none of that cheese or ham or fried egg is fattening. Dig in. She asked us that same question every single time we went there.
Next to the store, where we would buy her a new white polyester sweater every time. I have no idea where the other ones went. I think she had some kind of black market sweater thing going on in the nursing home.
One day, as we left the store, my grandmother proceeded to reach into her bra and take out a lipstick. I asked her why she kept it in her bra. She said she didn't, she had just "gotten" it in the store. What?!
Yep. She stole it. When I questioned her about the moral implications, she shrugged me off and said simply, "Who would suspect an old lady?"
I must've dropped my jaw in shock for then she said, "I'm sorry honey, I should've gotten you one, too."
Yup.

Adding color to Monday.

Emma made this skirt!!! One day, I told her, "go be creative." This skirt is the result. It was a real attention-getter at school today.
My outfit is one of my go-tos. I love Converse's clothing line, which is where the grey jacket thingy is from.
We leave for school at 7am even though it doesnt start until 8. I do all my work in the morning because i have to be home by 3:30 for Tula's bus. Man, how do people who work until 5 do this? I could send her to after-school care, but that means an extra bus ride and a lot of resistance. She does not do well with transitions. I am exhausted from rushing all the time and always being worried about getting my lessons ready and getting home for my little girl. I know it's worth it, but it does make for some very rushed fashion decisions in the morn.

M & M = love

My friend Noah, who just finished up a 2-year stint as head pastry chef at the Setai in Miami Beach, sent me some of his handmade macaroons and choc-coverred marzipan. I am a marzipan maniac. If you havent tried it, and can't get a hold of the real stuff, try Ben & Jerry's Mission to Marzipan.

B-Riv in da howse!!!

My new Forever 21 headband!

Today's post features Emma's BFF, Brandon. He's got incredible style and always looks totally put-together. The pictures of me and Em came out junky, because it turns out that even though he has mad style, Brandon is not a good photographer. LOL!

The Kids Are All Wrong. Right?

The weather was perfect today! In fact, I couldnt figure out what to wear because there were so many options for this upper 60s temperature. Emma, of course, had her whole outfit planned out yesterday.
I fell back on black.
I went to see "The Kids Are All Right" last night at the local 2nd run theatre. I loved it! I hated the characters I was meant to hate and loved the ones I was supposed to love. It worked for me. I could watch Julianne Moore any time, any where. I think she's amazing. Annette Bening was terrific, too. She's a dynamo.
I see them as really terrific female role models, plus, Julianne Moore's character had a kick-ass wardrobe.
If you havent seen it, please do.
That's all for now because I brought work home. Boo.
